Star Hansen Events Team Holiday Celebration

By | Inspiration, Photo Shoots, Social Events | No Comments

2017 was an incredible year!  We planned and executed the most beautiful events and were lucky enough to watch fourteen couples tie the knot this year.  My Star Hansen Events team has stood by me at each and every event and I couldn’t do what I do without them by my side.  Although fun and exciting, our work can sometimes be stressful, exhausting, and far from glamorous.  My girls have cleaned up spills, moved furniture, picked up rose petals one by one post ceremony, called cabs for guests, mopped dance floors, carried bridesmaid’s phones, run out for pre-ceremony snacks when the Champagne hit a little too hard a little too early, and fixed linens in windy weather over and over again; however, they work their tushies off on event days with enthusiasm and smiles on their beautiful faces.  This work is so worth it though – we all love it and agree that it is incredibly rewarding.  I am grateful to have found such an amazing team of women to work alongside me!

To thank my team of “SHE (Star Hansen Events) Babes” for all of their hard work in 2017, I treated them to a little holiday celebration earlier this month.  I had lots of fun designing this event for these gals who appreciate all that goes into designing and planning a Star Hansen Event (of any size).  I went with a moody wintery color palette of black, cream, blush and mixed metallics.  I shared the mood board for this party earlier this month as part of my Monthly Mood Board series.  Click here to view it.  I paired luxurious velvet with edgy leather and feminine florals for an unexpected and interesting combination.  The gold rimmed plates and lacy chargers added a bit of glam and elegnce to the table and the floral napkins were perfection.  The dinner took place at one of our team member’s (Laurie) home.  She has the most beautiful home in Malibou Lake that served as the perfect backdrop for our party.  She is an incredible cook and spoiled us with delicious appetizers and dinner that we paired with Cielo wine.  The table top pieces were provided by Premiere Party Rents and we were excited to debut some of their newest pieces.  Maximum Bloomage adorned our table with the most beautiful blooms and Cecile’s Paper Co. created coolest leather name tags that we used as place cards.  Brandon Aquino captured the entire night so beautifully for us – below are a few of my favorite pics!

We started the party out at Dry Bar – because every special night should begin with a blow out – where we got gussied up and then headed to Laurie’s for diner.  We reminisced about what fun we’ve had this year and chatted about what is ahead in the coming year.  We made many toasts and “cheers-ed” all night long.  We told stories, danced, made sparkly star crowns, and at the end of the night I surprised them all with a few little gifts including jean jackets with their names painted on them (a la Kelly Patrice) and one of my favorite books (Big Magic)!  Below are some more of the sillier photos from our night including shots from Dry Bar.  It was certainly a night to remember!

Cheers to 2018!

Vibiana Styled Shoot | Featured on Green Wedding Shoes

By | Featured, Inspiration, Photo Shoots, Trends & Great Finds | 2 Comments

Vibiana has always been one of my favorite event venues.  From the moment you walk in you know it is a special place and it definitely has that “WOW” factor.  I was honored to be asked to design and style an inspirational shoot at this iconic venue in Downtown Los Angeles and I had so much fun coming up with the concept, color palette, and design elements.  I worked along side a dream team of vendors who all helped make the end result truly lovely!  I even had the opportunity to work with my little sister who modeled as our bride.  Isn’t she gorgeous?!  I am so thrilled to have had this shoot featured on Green Wedding Shoes – one of my favorite wedding blogs!

Vibiana is a gorgeous cathedral located in the historic area of Downtown Los Angeles. Built in the late 1800s, the cathedral was originally used by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese and was the official cathedral of Los Angeles for more than 100 years.  In more recent years the building has become a sought after event venue specializing luxury weddings, special events, and performances.

With its high ceilings, abundance of Carrera marble, and breathtaking altars, we felt Vibiana was the perfect backdrop/venue for this glamorous winter styled shoot.  We chose a color palette of bright jewel tones mixed with metallic and moody accents to contrast Vibiana’s bright and clean interior.  Traditional décor elements mixed with modern pieces made for interesting contrast in this historic setting.  The outdoor walkway outside the bridal suite is a beautiful location for portraits with the Los Angeles sky line as a backdrop.  There are so many lovely nooks for unique photos.  Some of our favorites are the staircase, the gold dome, and the confessionals.  Below are a few of my favorite photos from this shoot.  I hope you enjoy them!

Epona Estate Styled Shoot

By | Featured, Inspiration, Photo Shoots, Weddings | One Comment

I’m a girlie girl and a true romantic at heart so I must admit, I love Valentine’s Day.  I realize it is a commercialized holiday but I don’t care.  I love seeing all of the hearts and reds and pinks in store windows.  I love making valentines with my kiddos and picking out little treats for them.  I love dark chocolate Dove hearts and I always buy a few boxes of conversation hearts even though I don’t care for them – there is just something so nostalgic about them…they take me right back to my elementary school days (pink and white were my favorite flavors)!  Because I love this time of year, I was inspired to design and style a shoot using the romantic colors of Valentine’s Day as my inspiration.  I recently shared my inspiration board for this shoot via February’s Monthly Mood Board.  The shoot took place at Epona Estate and an amazing team of vendors collaborated to make it truly beautiful.  It was featured on Inside Weddings last February and I think now is the perfect time to share it here with all of you!

Epona Estate is a magnificent ranch and vineyard nestled in Hidden Valley California, surrounded by the breathtaking Santa Monica Mountains.  I chose a romantic color palette including various shades of red, fuchsia, lavender, and mixed metallics.  I felt this unique pairing of elegant and feminine colors to be just perfect for a celebration of love.  The deep shades of crimson, burgundy, and scarlet mixed with muted lavender and metallics truly oozed romance and elegance.  This color combination contrasted with the greenery of the vineyard in such a beautiful way!  This color palette may look familiar – I featured the inspiration board I created for this shoot earlier this month on “Monthly Mood Boards”!

Our bride and groom, Michelle and Kylin, are a real life couple and have been together for more than six years.  Michelle was dressed in a gorgeous Jim Hjelm lace gown.  Her bouquet of garnet blooms, which includes deep red peonies, was the inspiration for her striking red lips.  The dining table was draped in a wonderfully textured amethyst linen and the table was adorned with beautiful floral arrangements.  The mix of peonies, roses, dahlias, and antique hydrangeas, created great depth and texture and we loved the varying heights. The watercolor inspired stationery suite added just the right amount of whimsy to the elegant decor. The cake was designed to mirror the stationery and complement the color palette.

I loved using a real life couple as our models for this shoot because their love for one anther is so clear.  They are a truly gorgeous couple!  FUN FACT: Kylin proposed to Michelle shortly after this shoot and they have just tied the knot in Oahu, HI!  I was grateful to assist them with the design of their Hawaiian wedding!  I can’t wait to share it with you – stay tuned!

Kathryn and Scotty’s Santa Barbara Engagement Shoot

By | Inspiration, Photo Shoots | 4 Comments

I met Kathryn almost a year ago and we immediately clicked.  We have a lot in common – we both love hot yoga, coffee, and traveling.  She is however, much more adventurous than I am (she has hiked the Pacific Crest Trail!!!) and this is something I love and admire about her!  She is such a kind and genuine person, one can’t help but adore her!  When we met, Kathryn was preparing to move to Tanzania Africa with her fiancé, Scotty, who was already living there for a work project.  Kathryn who is a RN wanted to volunteer her nursing skills to assist the naive people in the area.  Another reason to love her right?!  Scotty is sweet as can be and couldn’t wait for his fiancé to join him on his adventure in Africa.  Kathryn and Scotty lived in Tanzania for a few months before Scotty returned home to So Cal and Kathryn moved to the east coast to obtain her PA.  Most of our wedding planning has taken place while Kathryn has been away and we got really good at communicating via email and phone calls.  However, we still managed to stay connected and met up every time she came home to for school breaks or to visit family.

Today is Kathryn and Scotty’s wedding day.  I can’t wait to see all of our planning come together for a beautiful celebration but most of all, I am excited to watch Kathryn and Scotty become husband and wife.  Their love for each other is so deep and so evident – I know it will be a perfect day!  I look forward to sharing photos of their wedding day; however, in the meantime, I’d like to share photos from their Santa Barbara Engagement Shoot.  Their engagement photos were taken by the talented Jenny Quicksall who will also be shooting their wedding today!
